Banners is the moniker of Alt-Rock songwriter Michael Nelson. Hailing from Liverpool, Nelson writes and performs music that blurs the line between alternative and pop. As a recording artist Banners has dialed in his sound with acclaimed producer Stephen Kozmeniuk. With his band, Banners has toured extensively across the globe, and since signing with major UK label Island Records has been featured in multiple movies, tv shows and video games in only a short 4 year career thus far. This past Saturday Banners rolled into Hamilton to play Club Absinthe, and although the choice of venue seemed odd, the setting seemed to disappear when the band took the stage. Every once and a while it was easy to see the awkward height of the ceiling in comparison to a 6 foot something Nelson, but sonically Banners and their crew put on an incredible performance. It’s easy to see the lightning fast trajectory of Banners when hearing how polished the live show is. An odd pairing to see such a tight, professional and polished set of radio hits being played on the corner of Hughson and King William, but a little intimacy never hurt anyone.
