Exclusive Premiere

On what would have been his 47th birthday, Hamilton’s Heather Valley releases a cover of the late Jason Molina’s deep cut Whip Poor Will. “Jason was an Ohio singer songwriter who performed as Songs: Ohia and Magnolia Electric Co during his prolific career. We lost him in 2013 due to untreated depression, but his music remains as a beacon to help others get through the dark times. I love this song because I have checked in to the Southern Cross Motel myself and know how it feels. I am grateful to have seen the view through that window and carried on.” Although it was recorded at a haunted farmhouse during the isolated summer of 2020, this song feels very of the moment, in the liminal space between the old and new year. It was mixed and mastered by Nimal Agalawatte, another Hamilton musician and engineer, at Four String Studio.
