What’s on the Waterfront?
Just 10 minutes north of downtown Hamilton the Lake Ontario Waterfront is easy to get to by Bay Street or James Street North. Restored lakeside parks offer sweeping water views and relaxing green spaces to explore and connect with the natural beauty. The 7.5 km Waterfront Trail is a broad, paved path that connects piers and parks along the shoreline and is shared by walkers, joggers, bicyclists and bladers.
Bayfront Park is a large 40 acre green space toward the western end of the Waterfront Trail. Bayfront hosts fishing spots, a public boat launch, a grass amphitheater, and wildlife natural areas.
Heading West from Bayfront Park on the Waterfront Trail walkers reach Princess Point and Cootes Paradise. Ambitious visitors can climb the staircase to Dundurn Park to experience amazing views.
Heading East from Bayfront Park on the Waterfront Trail visitors come to Pier 4 Park with its popular 80 foot tugboat play structure, spray pad,and relaxing picnic spots. Just to the south is Bayview Park.
Continuing East on the Waterfront Trail, bicyclists find The Discovery Center with weekend bike rentals, Harbour Boat Tours, and Williams Grill and Scoop Shop. The popular outdoor Pier 8 Skating Rink plays music for roller skaters in the summer and ice skaters when it’s cold.
