The Urban Vine in Dundas!

Step into this welcoming space for a unique shopping experience! You’ll discover masterblend premium olive oils and unique aged balsamic vinegars! And you’re supporting a local family business!

The Vine “tasting boutique” offers an opportunity to explore new flavors and learn how and where the products are made.  The Vine is developing a recipe page on their website with tips for adding these infused oils and balsamics to your cooking experience.

Fused and Infused Olive Oil!

The Urban Vine carries premium fused and infused extra virgin olive oil (EVOO). You’ll find 16 olive oil blends, fused or infused with herbs or fruit oils.  A few of your choices include basil, garlic, lemon, cayenne and rosemary.

Extra virgin olive oil differs from virgin olive oil in that EVOO has a slightly smaller amount of oleic acid, giving it a different taste experience.

Fused olive oil is made by combining ripe olives and ripe fruit (or fresh herbs), and pressing them together, blending their oils during the pressing process. Infused olive oil is made by adding dried herbs or fruit to the olive oil after it has been pressed. An infused herb/olive oil mixture is sealed and cold-steeped for about a week to blend the flavors.

A charming old story (maybe true) tells that the first fused olive oil was discovered by accident. The story claims the press workers cleaned their presses at season-end by throwing lemons into them and pressing.  Once they tasted what came out, they liked the fused olive oil and lemon!

Infused Balsamic Vinegars!

You’ll discover a wide selection of infused balsamic vinegars here! Urban Vine has balsamics infused with cranberry pear, apple, maple, and key lime to name a few! Aged balsamic is made from sweet wine grapes and aged in barrels.

Aged balsamic vinegar has heart healthy benefits, just like olive oil!
